Dr. John Anderson went on leave in May and later resigned from his professorship. During his absence, Dr. T. Y. Li was appointed to act as the chief of the Medical Unit. Dr. Li also conducted lectures on general medicine and undertook the clinical teaching both in the wards and in the outpatient depart- ment of the Government Civil Hospital.

Dr. W. B. A. Moore was appointed to be the consultant to the Medical Unit during the absence of the Professor of Medicine.
SCHOOL OF TROPICAL MEDICINE.
During the later part of the year, the laboratory and class room of the School of Tropical Medicine were turned over to the Department of Biology.
The Jordan Scholarship was not rewarded this year. HOSPITAL WARDS.
The three hospital wards allotted to the medical Unit contains 42 beds and cots (1 cot less than the previous year).
3 During the year, the total number of patients admitted to these wards numbered 726-an increase of 105 cases as compared to the previous year. Of these 726 cases, 646 are Chinese, 82 are non-Chinese the latter including: Annamite, Arab, Indian, Japanese, Malay, Negro and Portuguese, 410 are men, 179 are women and 137 are children under twelve of
years age. these were used as clinical material for teaching purposes.
AFTERNOON OUT-PATIENT DEPARTMENT,

is conducted on Monday and Thursday afternoons throughout the year including the long vacations, and the new patients (men, women and children) who passed through these clinics numbered 2,196, of these many came for more than one visit.
CHILDREN OUT-PATIENT CLINIC.
A special children out-patient clinic held on Thursday and Saturday mornings was organized and conducted by Dr. T. Y. Li since the beginning of this year, and the number of new children came for treatment in these clinics during the year numbered 890 and the total attendance numbered 1,631.

MORNING OUT-PATIENT DEPARTMENT.
Two out-patient mornings are also allotted to the Medical Unit and the new patients who attended these sessions during the year numbered 4,867.
The morning out-patients during the year, therefore, give a total number of 6,498 (men, women and children in all)an increase of 1,498 cases as compared to the previous year.

During the year ended 30th April, 1928, admissions to Tsan Yuk Hospital numbered 1,109 of these 1,051 were delivered, and 58 discharged.
There were 1,016 infants born alive, five maternal deaths, and 19 children born alive died in hospital.
Fifty-five patients left hospital against advice.
Over 90% of patients remained in hospital for a week after delivery.
